The Great Arkansas Hail Hunt

Since I came back to Arkansas in 2005, I have saved the best viewer pictures including photographs of big hail.  I have compiled several in a slide show for you.

John Robinson with the National Weather Service office in North Little Rock has started what he calls, "The Great Arkansas Hail Hunt."  While we have comprehensive weather records in our state, we do lack hail records, but he's going to change that and he's asking for your help.  This isn't going to be easy since good documentation is essential to this project.  Here are his guidelines...
1. The hail must have fallen in Arkansas at any time in the past.
2. There must be photographic proof or other form of documentation.  Unfortunately, personal recollections will not be sufficient.
3. In photographs, the hailstone must be shown next to a ruler or object of known size (so that the size of the hail can be determined).
4. The hail must be at least 4.5 inches in diameter.  (For reference, a CD is 4.75 inches in diameter.)
Photos can be submitted by e-mail to  john.robinson@noaa.gov or mailed to:
