Forget 90s Next Week. How About 100s ?

The data continues to show a strong ridge of high pressure building into the south central United States next week.  This will bring our first "mini" heat wave into the state.  The video below goes over the European model forecast and it does show the potential to hit 100 degrees.  Even if the official temperature does NOT hit 100, it will feel like it with heat index.

I always talk about the 3 key ingredients for triple digit heat in Arkansas.
  1. Strong ridge of high pressure
  2. Abundant sunshine
  3. Dry ground
The main question I have is #3, the dry ground.  Many locations, especially western Arkansas have plenty of soil moisture.  The suns energy could get focused into evaporation which would limit the potential to hit 100.  HOWEVER, if that does happen, the higher moisture values will make it feel 100 degrees + with the heat index.

The video below shows you some of the data and the possibilities next week.

It's been a while since we've had a blog video. Also, hopefully this summer won't be another hellish season of heat and severe droughts.
