Video Blog Discussion Jan. 5th

4 PM Wednesday Update... we have a winner.  Leah correctly guessed the kid in the red coat is Poolboy.  We grew up on the same street and were involved in several snowball fights and touch football games.

3 PM Wednesday Update... the kid in the red coat is NOT D.C.

Noon Wednesday Update... The 23rd anniversary of the January 1988 snowstorm was mentioned in the comment section.  I'll never forget that huge snow.  It was the first time I ever experienced thunder snow!  We were out of school for days and days.  You will see in one of the pictures below some of my friends in the neighborhood having a snowball fight.  One of those friends is now a radio personality here in Little Rock and I think he's wearing a red coat in the pic.  Can anyone name him?

nice video Todd, I like what i see in the gfs but im scared it will back off to an all rain event. Since the cold air looks like it will be stuck in place maybe we can get something going down the road.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I'm buying some new long johns immediately!

Never too many maps Todd, and you do a good job explaining in the time that you have.

Btw, I now have an excuse to buy a home weather station, "but honey, Todd said he wanted us to record the highs and lows next week, I HAD to do it" LOL!

Cold "DRY" air for at least Northern Arkansas. Good luck getting your snow Central and Southern, because we will be COLD and bone dry up here! Wish I was wrong.

Well, it looks like we might not get anything out of the precip up here in Manila. Thanks for the update on what to expect next week.

Storm total for LR in that snowstorm of Jan 88 was 12.4 inches. NLR storm total was 12 inches. The one day total for LR was 10.4 inches.

I think that amount will be equaled or surpassed in either the winter of 11-12 or 13-14.

Looked up all time record low for OK city and to my surprise their all time low is -8 degrees. As we know LR record is -12 in Feb of 1899. I would have thought OK city would be lower than our record.

Wxguru's wife here....I just have a "gut" feeling those models are going to lean more into precip for us.I would LOVE the added bonus of accumulation of snow as well, ice isn't nice, but its usual for us in this part of the state (North Central)So I always have that caution in the back of my mind as well. The cold air sticking around like you said will take some getting used to. Arkansans don't normally gear up like they should for this kind of cold, so a word of warning for those moms out there with school age kiddos...get the gear near!! Bundle the bungalos!! And warm place for your pets. Thanks for the blog Todd, helps us plan and take care of our families as we should. ;-)

Very cold weather headed to Arkansas? Sounds great! I'll take it any time over the oppressive summer weather we just had. I'll keep my "Weather Forecast Gang" updated.

Todd, you do a great job with the video blog discussions and the maps are fantastic! Will be checking back often for updates on the possible Arctic Freeze and frozen precipitation.

looks like joe B's longrange forecast he came out with last summer for this winter is going up in flames lol goes to show no one can predict the weather that far in advance.

Todd so what does the euro show? I just looked at the gfs looks like everthing will go south of the state. But iv got a idea you should try i think you should get a facebook and post on there to. just a thought

Todd,

I'm in northwest Louisiana, and we don't have a weather blog like your's. I watch KTBS-3 in Shreveport for my weather. What's funny is that our met, Joe Haynes, said the exact thing as you did about ice storms at the tail end of an arctic blast. It was almost word for word! Hahah

well who know right now its up in the air. everyone has a different forecast. weather.com has us with snow sunday and monday 70percent chance that is. Hope things come together. I think this thing could take a more northern track. If it does we could be surprised

I wish I could see your videos from my iPhone. I second the idea of using Facebook for updates!!

I just wanted to say thank you for doing these video blogs. I actually live over in Memphis, but follow the Arkansas weather blog because your the only place i can see all the models instead of just reading the NWS discussions about them. I also want to thank you because i've always had a interest in meteorology and have learned a lot of new things from your videos. Keep up the great work.
