First Snow of the Season For Arkansas

We all laughed yesterday when the computer models (GFS) showed some snow for north central Arkansas.  While we try to outsmart the computers, sometimes they know better.

These pictures are from Roxana Wallace in Nogo, AR which is located 20 miles north of Hector in the Ozark National Forest.

I'll have another post soon dealing with the upcoming warm to cold pattern developing next week.

Nice pics of the snow this morning. It sure is nice its that time of year. Todd looking forward on your upcoming thoughts on the possible cold weather or if it will just be marginal cold and if there is any hope if winter weather is possible or not.

My prediction for when we get winter weather this year will b really early in the season or really late, Similar to 08 when we had numerous tornadoes in the winter, and lots of snow in the spring

Hello Everyone, I am happy some of you got to see the first flakes of the season, I think I did mention"Someone in the state of Arkansas could see there first taste of winter weather about two & half weeks ago" What do yall think, should this count for me, I would say yes :) lol. Let's see what happens as we head into Thanksgiving week. Maybe I can go two for two. That cold air next week is going to be hard to stop as it heads south thru the Plains, I am starting to think maybe more ice/sleet/snow mix, I will post on that later. Thanks to everyone that enjoys reading my blog post.. Stay Safe...

I had to dig up the archives and sure enough! I entertained the idea of small accumulating snow the week before and or the week of Thanksgiving!! SnowBird Bob, we should go into business together and give Channel 7 some more competition since these other channels lack it! Better yet, maybe they have a spot on the payroll for us.. :)

On Halloween, I said:

Ok, I have my entries set. Without revealing, I think that someone will see accumulating snow in Nov. It won't be much, but just a reminder that Mother Nature will have some tricks up her sleeve this winter. Thanksgiving weekend has a chance to see some winter precip in Central Arkansas. We should be in a very progressive pattern and I wouldn't rule out some sleet or freezing rain in Central Arkansas and some snow up north. I would love to see a cold, nasty sleetstorm for the LSU game. I may be a week late on this prediction. It could happen in the next two weeks. As for December, that is when I think we'll see our winter. Again, the middle to later part of the month (10th-24th) will see some accumlating snow across parts of the state. After we roll into Jan, all bets are off. Dry and cold for the first half of the month, and then the thaw begins. This will introduce severe weather towards the end of January, and February will be extremely active. We will see severe weather and some snow behind it. I have a feeling that we will really have to be on guard late into the Winter season for Severe Weather. The last strong La Nina that I can remember was the winter of 98-99. Most of us know what happened January 21st? of 99. Bad tornadoes ripped through the metro. Not saying we'll see a repeat, but it's possible. Look at what happened last week. Impressive rotation for a early season storm. That's all for now! Happy Halloween ! The Weather Fanatic

I think there will be a Wintery Mix of snow/freezing/sleet mixture overnight Friday into Friday Aftenroon (November 26)...Accumulations could be possible but too early for details...

Severe Weather may occur along and ahead of the front if enough ingredients are in place...Strong Wind Shear, Moisture look to be in place...Instability? Sun shine?

I make my own weather posts and forecasts on facebook...They are detailed most of time time...

Hello everyone-Check out Ninja's Corner and watch a weather balloon launch video. First one I've seen from start to finish. Very interesting, and I guess our local weather service uses the same method of launch.

Does anyone know how weather.com and accuweather make their forecasts, ie what models they use? I'm assuming that accuweather uses the GFS? The reason I ask is that I compare the two everyday and as of 8 am accuweather is showing wintery precip around Thanksgiving or the day after.
