December To Remember?

10:40AM Friday Update...  As mentioned below, the NWS Little Rock sent out a very interesting tweet.  Here it is again.

"Here's an interesting and unfortunate stat from @ARForestryComm November 2017 had the most frequent wildfires for the month of November since 1989. Wow!"

Joe Bastardi compared the maximum temperature anomalies that November to this November and these maps are from WeatherBell.com.

November 1989

Isn't that scary close!!!!!!  Scroll down to see the temperatures following December 1989.  NOT saying we'll get a repeat of that, but it's very interesting to see the similarities and it makes you wonder doesn't it?!  Cold coming next week still likely, but that cold will be TYPICAL for December.  We'll see what the following weeks bring though.  There are signals the cold lasts for awhile.  Stay tuned!

I'll have a new post within the next day or two on the coming colder pattern, but first I want to take a moment to look back at an interesting statistic I think you'll find very, very interesting as well.

Take this with a grain of salt, but it's fun weather stuff and I geek out over it.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock tweeted this... "Here's an interesting and unfortunate stat from @ARForestryComm November 2017 had the most frequent wildfires for the month of November since 1989. Wow!"

So, let's look at what happened in 1989 and compare it to 2017!

November 1989, only 1.95'' of rain fell and the average monthly temperature was 2.7° above average.

November 2017, only .42'' of rain fell and the average monthly temperature was 2.6° above average.

Not far off!

So what was December 1989 like?

It started mild, but turned extremely cold. Only a trace of snow fell that month though.  I thought it was extremely interesting given the fact we're starting December 2017 mild, but it will turn cold next week.  Will it reach the extreme level of 1989?  That's impossible to say and I would not read too much into this.  If you have read Meteorologist Joe Bastardi's winter forecast on Weatherbell.com.  he does NOT include 1989 as an analog year.  So once again, take with a grain of salt, but it's fun to look at!
