You Just Lived Through Weather History

Here's the statement released by the National Weather Service this Friday morning.  It was an historic July for much of the state.

...JULY 2014...ONE OF THE COLDEST ON RECORD IN ARKANSAS...

JULY PROVED TO BE RATHER COOL OVER MUCH OF ARKANSAS. THIS TIME OF
YEAR...BLOCKING HIGH PRESSURE TENDS TO BE THE DOMINANT WEATHER
PATTERN IN THE MID SOUTH AND MUCH OF THE SOUTHERN UNITED STATES.
HOWEVER...THIS YEAR...THE HIGH PRESSURE WAS SHUNTED SOUTHWEST AND WEST
OF THE REGION...ALLOWING NORTHWEST AND NORTHERLY UPPER LEVEL WIND FLOW
TO DRIVE SEVERAL SYSTEMS THROUGH THE STATE. MUCH COOLER AIR AND ABUNDANT
CLOUD COVER TENDED TO FOLLOW THESE SYSTEMS. THE RESULT WAS A MONTH WHICH
SAW TEMPERATURES WELL BELOW THE 30-YEAR AVERAGE IN MUCH OF THE STATE.

AT MANY LOCATIONS...THESE TEMPERATURES MADE FOR THE COOLEST JULY ON
RECORD...BE IT AVERAGE HIGH...LOW OR MONTHLY TEMPERATURE. PRELIMINARY
INDICATIONS ARE THAT...STATEWIDE...THIS HAS BEEN THE COLDEST JULY
SINCE 1967...AND QUITE LIKELY THE COLDEST ON RECORD. A FINAL DETERMINATION
ON THIS RANKING WILL COME AFTER FINAL QUALITY CONTROL OF DATA HAS BEEN
MADE BY THE NATIONAL CLIMATIC DATA CENTER.

IN TERMS OF AVERAGE TEMPERATURE...THIS HAS BEEN THE COLDEST JULY IN
OVER 100 YEARS AT MOUNTAIN HOME...HARDY...PINE BLUFF AND CAMDEN. JULY
2014 AT SEVERAL OTHER LOCATIONS...SUCH AS LITTLE ROCK...MAY NOT HAVE ENDED
UP RANKING AS THE ALL-TIME COLDEST...BUT WAS DEFINITELY IN THE TOP FIVE
COLDEST.

ALL DATA LISTED BELOW ARE PRELIMINARY UNTIL FINAL QUALITY CONTROL
BY THE NATIONAL CLIMATIC DATA CENTER IN ASHEVILLE NORTH CAROLINA.

We are getting ready for the '64 Galore' yard sale which begins at Bebee and goes along Hwy 6a4 all the way to FT. Smith. It is on Aug 7th thru 9th (next Thur., Fri, and Sat. Can you give us a weather report for those days? Be nice if the cooler weather would stay around with no rain.
Thank you,
Frances

What has happened to the weather blog. It is mostly about KATV news. Used to have contests and much more comments about weather. I guess the weather is just too boring in August.
Thanks

Todd,
I am not weather man by far but as a hunter I have tried to understand the effects in moon, atmosphere etc. on the game I hunt and obviously become a better hunter. With that said I recently went to a new website (new to me) and tried to understand all that was being said but the information was a little overwhelming. It did however agree with your prediction of a colder possibly snowier winter. You probably don't have the time to answer all the comments but if there is a brief explanation of this wealth of information that would be wonderful. The website was http://techlodia.com/preliminary-2014-2015-winter-forecast
