YOU CAN SEE ALL THE 2012 SUMMER CONTEST ENTRIES BY CLICKING ON IT IN THE NAVIGATION BAR ABOVE.  THANKS TO ALL WHO ENTERED AND GOOD LUCK.  IT'S THE MOST ENTRIES WE HAVE EVER HAD FOR A CONTEST!  THANKS FOR MAKING THE ARKANSAS WEATHER BLOG WHAT IT IS TODAY!

This should really come as no surprise, on average, this is the hottest spring in several categories.  I hope I have done my math correctly and we won't have the official information until the National Weather Service releases the final stats Friday, June 1st.

Meteorologists refer to the months of March, April, and May as meteorological spring.  June 1st is the start of meteorological summer.  Even with 1 day to go, according to the numbers, we will shatter all the records making this spring the hottest by average seasonal, average low, and average high temperature.  Little Rock temperature records date back to the 1870s.

Here are the numbers as of Thursday May 31st....

By average high temperature: 79.98 degrees
By average low temperature: 57.54 degrees
By average seasonal temperature: 68.76 degrees.

What about summer? Remember, I don't like long range forecasting, but I can't imagine it being as extreme against the averages as this spring.  Stay tuned.
